Remembrance and sacrifice: The red poppy is a powerful symbol of remembrance for those who have died in military service, especially after it flourished on the battlefields of World War I.

Sleep and death: In ancient Greek and Roman cultures, poppies were associated with sleep, death, and the gods of the underworld. This is why they were sometimes placed on tombs and why characters in The Wizard of Oz fell asleep in a field of poppies.

Consolation and peace: Red poppies can also signify consolation and hope for a peaceful future.

Fragility of life: Some interpretations see the poppy as a reminder of life’s fragility and transience.
